Manchester United held by West Ham as Mourinho is sent to the stands

Premier League, Old Trafford – Manchester United 1 (Ibrahimovic 21) West Ham 1 (Sakho 2)

It took the visitors just 91 seconds to open the scoring through Diafra Sakho, but the hosts responded before the break when a classy Paul Pogba pass was nodded home by Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Both teams huffed and puffed in search of a winner after the break, but a shot disallowed for offside by Jesse Lingard was as close as either side came.

United are now 11 points adrift of Premier League leaders Chelsea - and just nine clear of the relegation zone.

TALKING POINT
Has Mourinho lost the plot? It’s understandable for a manager to be frustrated by a booking to his star player for diving, but the United manager completely lost it when Pogba was shown his fifth yellow of the season, screaming his disagreement with the decision and booting a water bottle up the touchline. It was a strange reaction to such a relatively innocuous incident, no doubt just as much to do with his team’s poor run of results at home as the moment itself.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Darren Randolph (West Ham): The Hammers’ performance was a great team effort, but they were bailed out on more than one occasion by the excellent Randolph, who put in a top display between the sticks to keep United’s attack at bay.

KEY MOMENTS

2’ – GOAL! Man Utd 0-1 West Ham. Wow, what a start! Payet's whipped free-kick caused panic in the box and Sakho snuck in ahead of Zlatan to dispatch a header beyond a helpless De Gea. West Ham look like they can hardly believe it and the home crowd are stunned into silence.21’ – GOAL! Man Utd 1-1 West Ham. West Ham stand off Pogba in midfield and he shows his class with a wonderful lofted pass over the top that puts it on a plate for Zlatan to nod into the bottom corner.

26’ – YELLOW! Paul Pogba is booked for a dive after jumping out of the way of a challenge in midfield. The player is absolutely furious, but Jon Moss isn't going back on his decision. That's a fifth booking of the season for Pogba and he'll miss the midweek League Cup reunion with the Hammers.
28’ – OFF! Mourinho reacted with anger at that decision, booting a water bottle up the touchline as he whirled away in fury. It's enough to rile up the fourth official and Jon Moss comes across to send Jose to the stands. Again. 77’ – NO GOAL! Mkhitaryan's shot comes back off the post and is turned home by Lingard, but the flag is up.

87’ – CHANCE! Antonio charges up the right flank and finds former United graduate Fletcher, who dinks his way into space and forces a great save out of De Gea.
