AWCON 2016: Honor victorious Super Falcons with houses, Rep begs Buhari

Following the victory of the Super Falcons in clinching the African Women Cup of Nations( AWCON) for a record tenth time, the lawmaker representing Ojo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Obasa has hailed the exemplary performance of the team
Desire Oparanozie's 84th-minute goal in Yaounde gave defending champion Nigeria their 10th title in 12 tournaments.

In a statement made available by his media aide, Mr Opeyemi Ahmed on Sunday in Lagos, the lawmaker described their cerebral exploit as 'a tonic of faith and restoration of happiness in the country', alluding that such feat is needed to celebrate at this trying period of economic recession.

"In all facets, Nigeria is the giant of  Africa, she is a blessed nation with abundance of talents. The victory of our ladies is a confirmation of the resilience and focus being embedded in every Nigerian"

"After conquering the continent for the tenth time, it is now time for the Super Falcons to move a step higher and compete with the best in the world. As for me and many Nigerians, it is possible if there is a conducive environment for proper welfare "

However, the lawmaker threw a gibe at the Super Eagles, urging them to take a cue and inspiration from their female counterpart by ensuring that Nigeria flag is being hoisted in the next FIFA World Cup to be hosted by Russia.

Also, Obasa appealed to President Buhari to take a step forward in compensating them and deviate from the normal presidential handshake which serves as the ultimate reward for victors.

" Winning a tournament of this magnitude for the tenth time calls for celebration. While in the past, the Super Falcons have always being rewarded with the regular golden handshake and meager resources. One will pray and hope that the reward of this era will be a complete change from the past"

" Also, it will be expedient to appeal to the president to reward the victorious ladies with houses, compensating them with such will help them to build their lives in a better way" Obasa said.
