Everton vs Manchester United: Match preview and Team News

Everton host Manchester United in the Premier League this weekend as the Toffees look to get their season back on track with a morale-boosting win over Jose Mourinho‘s men.
Evertone hope a big performance in a huge clash with Manchester United can kick-start a turn in fortunes for Everton. With one win in their last eight games, the Blues welcome their old rivals to Goodison Park, the pair being two of just six teams to have featured in every season since the Premier League began.

Everton have a history of doing well against the Old Trafford outfit and Ronald Koeman will be hoping to motivate his team into another impressive performance against the Red Devils this week. They have won three of their last six matches against United at home.  However, the Merseyside outfit are in very poor form continued last weekend when a 1st minute goal from Charlie Austin was enough to secure Southampton the points against them at St Mary’s.
That result made it five defeats, three draws, and just one win in their last nine outings in all competitions. Koeman is under a lot of pressure right now and the Toffees cannot afford another disappointing result here.
Manchester United will be looking to capitalise on Everton’s poor form when they travel to Goodison this week. The Red Devils have been very inconsistent so far and are already 11 points adrift of league leaders Chelsea.
However, they will be heading into this game with some confidence after their 4-1 thrashing of West Ham United in the EFL Cup. Jose Mourinho’s men cannot afford to slip up once again in their race for a top four finish and this will be a must-win game for them.
Their victory in midweek made it three wins from their last five games, but away from home they have only won two of their last seven in all competitions, losing four times. They have conceded in six of these seven and scored in just four of them.

Head to Head
Everton have lost four of their last five meetings with Manchester United in all competitions (W1), with the most recent of those defeats coming in the FA Cup semi-final last season. However, they have won three of their last four Premier League matches against Man Utd at Goodison Park (L1); this after winning only three of their previous 20.
Two seasons ago, Everton enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 home victory over this Sunday’s opponents Manchester United. It was the Blues’ most convincing Goodison Park win against the Red Devils in the Premier League era, secured courtesy of first-half goals from James McCarthy and John Stones. Kevin Mirallas’ breakaway strike a quarter of an hour before full-time put the seal on a memorable spring afternoon.
Manchester United have won at Goodison Park on 15 occasions in the Premier League; at no other away venue have they won more often in the competition’s history.

Wayne Rooney will be suspended for Manchester United’s visit to his old club Everton on Sunday after he was shown his fifth yellow card of the season in Wednesday night’s EFL Cup win over West Ham.
The away side will also be without their three first choice defenders in Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw. Bailly is back in training, but the new signing is lacking in match fitness.
